I’m very excited about your interest in furthering yourself a musician! For beginners or advanced students, it is a process that is not always easy, sometimes frustrating, but always rewarding.
In studying music, process is everything– the journey is just as important as the destination. The private studio should be a safe-haven for students. A place for learning, experimentation, failures and successes.
I emphasize the importance of process over product and treat all of my students as professionals. Lessons move very quickly, but I will never leave you behind! I am very patient and understanding, but will push you and expand your comfort zone.
A recent MIT study found that online learning is just as effective as in-person learning. The internet provides a fantastic opportunity to learn from the comfort of your own home!
With my setup, I am able to coach you just like we were in the same room together. We will be working one-on-one with sessions tailored to your specific needs.
If you’re interested in piano, I teach a classically-based curriculum. This is a great starting point for all instruments, especially piano! As you progress, we can easily work on other styles in which you’re interested. When it comes to the pieces we will work on, you may have input, but it is my job as an educator to broaden your horizons and prepare you to be a well-rounded performer. That being said, we will work on repertory from classical to musical theatre, jazz, or pop if you so desire. You are encouraged to bring in pieces that will compliment what we are covering in lessons. We will also learn music theory and work on music reading skills, as literacy is very important for your growth as an artist.
In voice, we will begin with the basics: posture, breathing, relaxation, and healthy use of your instrument. How you sing is just as important as what you sing. You will learn warm-ups and practice techniques, and about vocal placement and projection. For my advanced vocal students, we will work on diction, interpretation, character development, audition books and advanced music theory. We will work on audition materials and making strong 16 or 32-bar cuts that really sell you as a performer.
